A Horrible Place to Live
This review is an honest, good-faith review of "The Southern Apartments" based on personal experiences as well as interviews with current as well as previous tenants. This in no way part of a smear campaign. It is based on good-faith statements.
If you are seeking a quiet and peaceful place to live in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, I strongly advise you not to consider "The Southern" Apartments, located at 1751 Lascassas Pike, Murfreesboro, TN 37130. Choosing this complex will likely result in significant disappointment and frustration.
One of the most persistent issues is the constant noise and lack of control over resident behavior, particularly that of unsupervised children. Children are routinely allowed to run and scream loudly in the breezeways, slam doors repeatedly, and bounce balls both in the common areas and against apartment doors. Residents frequently find themselves dodging skateboards and bicycles speeding up and down the breezeways, creating a hazardous environment—especially for elderly tenants or those with mobility concerns.
Attempts to address this behavior directly with the children often result in verbal abuse, as they have been known to respond with profanity. Additionally, they have a habit of knocking on doors at all hours only to flee, and they have been caught stealing delivered food orders and packages, including Amazon shipments.
When these incidents are reported to the management office, the response is generally dismissive, with remarks such as “they are just kids” or “nothing can be done if it’s before 10:00 p.m.” This is particularly problematic for residents who work night shifts and need to rest during the day; daytime peace and quiet simply do not exist here. The disruptive behavior begins as soon as the school bus arrives in the afternoon and continues unabated on weekends and throughout the entire summer.
Unfortunately, the parents contribute to the disturbance as well. It is not uncommon to hear shouting and domestic arguments echoing through the hallways. There is often the noticeable odor of drugs coming from certain apartments with open doors. Many parents openly defend their children’s disruptive behavior and, on occasion, have even threatened other residents who voice concerns.
The core issue is that this level of noise, disorder, and general lack of respect for other tenants is tolerated—and at times outright defended—by the management of "The Southern" Apartments.
To add to these frustrations, if you encounter a significant maintenance problem within your unit, be prepared to wait an unreasonable amount of time for any resolution, if it is addressed at all.
It is also important to note that "The Slate" Apartments, located next door, is operated by the same management company. Prospective tenants should be aware that similar conditions are very likely at that property as well.
In summary, if tranquility, safety, and responsive management are important to you, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Living at "The Southern" Apartments has proven to be a regrettable experience for many, and I hope this review helps others make a more informed decision.
